Position Overview: The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading and executing all accounting operations for a 150+ property, multi-entity self-storage management company. This role is accountable for ensuring financial accuracy, driving consistency in reporting, strengthening internal controls, and supporting scalable growth across the business. We are looking for a leader who is actively engaged in the work—someone who sets the standard through direct contribution, strong execution, and strategic participation alongside the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with executive leadership (CEO, COO, CBDO) to align financial operations with company strategy. 
  • Lead and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, senior accountants, and financial systems.
  • Own and execute a timely and accurate monthly close process across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and deliver financial statements and reporting packages, including variances and performance analysis.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Establish, strengthen, and maintain internal controls across a complex multi-entity structure.
  • Ensure accuracy and scalability of intercompany and shared services allocations.
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Oversee banking relationships, cash management, and liquid visibility.
  • Drive system optimization, automation, and ERP enhancements (including Sage Intacct)
  • Lead process improvements, system integrations, and border financial infrastructure development.
  • Develop, mentor, and hold the accounting team accountable for performance and growth.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing (5-8+ professionals)
  • Strong hands-on accounting background with the ability to operate in detailed, fast-moving environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial systems/ERP platforms
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present financial insights clearly to senior leadership. 
  • Proven experience in process improvement and scaling accounting operations in a multi-entity environment
  • Calm, solutions-orientated leadership style with strong judgement and execution ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field 
  • CPA designation   
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems
  • Experience in multi-entity or multi-location accounting environments
  • Proven track record of system implementation and financial process optimization

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $120-140K, based on experience and qualifications.
