Position Title: Accounting Assistant

Department: Accounting

Reports to: Controller

Location: Memphis, TN (Home Office)

Travel Requirements: <5%

Status: Full-Time / Non-Exempt

Overall Responsibility:

The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for managing specific projects for the Accounting Department and Corporate Office. Such management will include establishing relationships with vendors and regulatory agencies, maintaining records and schedules, and regularly reporting on the status of any projects in progress.

Primary Functions:

  • Gather reports and prepare worksheets for monthly closing
  • Processing expense reimbursement
  • Maintain property database
  • Process requests for information from property managers and owners
  • Collect, sort and distribute mail
  • Serve as face of company for phone and email inquiries
  • Maintain utility invoice files for managed properties
  • Participate in projects, as assigned
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Monitor and maintain office supplies
  • Organize and coordinate office cleaning and repairs services
  • Coordinate/plan meals for periodic office meetings
  • Occasional store errands/bank deposit runs

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word
  • Accounting software experience a plus
  • Excellent online research skills

  • Possesses a constructive, positive demeanor and demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to changes

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associates Degree in business related field highly preferred
  • 2-3 years of general accounting and/or office administration experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to sit for prolonged periods of time working at a desk on a computer
  • The ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment
  • The ability to communicate, converse with and express information in person, by phone and through other technology
  • The ability to maintain a regular and punctual schedule 
  • The ability to travel by car or plane up to 5%

Pay Range: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
